Marzena Sucharska / Marzesu

Marzena Sucharska (born in 1983 in Poland), also known by her artistic pseudonym Marzesu, is a visual artist whose practice focuses primarily on analog collage and acrylic painting incorporating collage techniques. She lives and works in Warsaw.

She graduated from Studio Sztuki, specializing in spatial design, and was a guest student at the Faculty of Industrial Design at the Academy of Fine Arts in Warsaw. She holds a Master’s degree from Wyższa Szkoła Sztuki i Projektowania in Łódź, which she completed with the Dean’s Distinction. She also completed postgraduate studies in Design Management at Instytut Wzornictwa Przemysłowego in cooperation with Szkoła Główna Handlowa in Warsaw, as well as postgraduate studies in pedagogical preparation for teachers.

In her artistic practice, she focuses on working with paper. She creates analog collages that often serve as sketches and starting points for her acrylic paintings on canvas. She experiments with texture and structure, combining painting with paper elements to give her works a distinctive, layered character. Her work explores themes of memory, emotion, everyday life and imperfection.

Marzena Sucharska is actively involved in the artistic community, presenting her work in numerous solo and group exhibitions, as well as participating in illustration and socially engaged projects. Sustainability is an important part of her practice: she extensively uses recycled and repurposed materials, creating art with an emphasis on reuse and a more sustainable approach to making.

My Artistic Journey

Marzena Sucharska has been creating analog collages for many years. Her creative process is intuitive and spontaneous: she reaches for paper, scissors and glue, transforming found images into new and unexpected narratives. Fragments of newspapers, photographs and forgotten words acquire new meanings within her compositions. For her, collage is both a tool of expression and a language of emotion.

Since 2010, she has been developing her own distinctive style, based on simplicity of form and depth of meaning. Human emotions, memory and everyday experiences occupy a central place in her work. She embraces imperfection: tears, cracks and shifts become spaces for truth and authenticity. Her practice combines sensitivity with a critical perspective on contemporary life.

She consistently makes extensive use of recycled and repurposed materials. For years, she has collected newspapers, magazines, flyers and various types of paper, avoiding the purchase of ready-made art materials whenever possible. One of her personal rules is never to cut books, reflecting her respect for the history and content preserved in printed materials. Even the way her artworks are packaged follows the same sustainable approach and forms an integral part of her artistic practice.
